What you are actually installing
GB WhatsApp Pro is not the Play Store app. Someone else repackaged a WhatsApp-like client and added menus for themes, privacy toggles, and media tools. Meta does not sign that file, and Google Play does not review it.
That does not mean every copy is malware. It does mean a clean-looking icon is not proof. Compare the file size with the version you meant to install before you tap Install. A file that is much smaller, or that asks you to turn off Play Protect “or it will not work,” is a reason to stop.
What can go wrong on the phone
A modified client can request more than chat access: storage, notifications, and sometimes overlay or accessibility. Open Android Settings → Apps → GB WhatsApp Pro → Permissions after the first launch. Revoke anything you did not turn on for a feature you actually use.
Repackaged files are the bigger problem. Pages that promise a “virus-free GB WhatsApp” often swap in adware. A fake APK that copies the GB WhatsApp name can look identical in the installer dialog. If the package name or signer changes between updates, treat it as a different app, not a patch.
What can go wrong with the account
WhatsApp can log the number out or show a screen that only the official app may continue. That is separate from a bad download. Extra features do not make the client official, and no settings menu can promise the number will stay active.
If the number receives bank codes, work messages, or two-factor logins, the downside of a restriction is higher than a missing theme. Read whether an unofficial client can restrict the number before you register that SIM inside GB WhatsApp Pro.
A practical check before you keep it
- Match the file. Size and version should match the download page, not a random filename.
- Install beside official WhatsApp only if you mean to. Do not uninstall the Play Store app until you know which number this build will use.
- Review permissions the same day. If a later update adds SMS or accessibility, pause and re-check the source.
These checks lower the chance of a bad file. They do not turn GB WhatsApp Pro into an official client.
